Recently I asked Johnson about what she was reading. Her reply:
I recently finished Anna-Marie McLemore’s beautiful debut novel The Weight of Feathers. First off, what a great title. I already know I’m in for something special. On the surface, the novel is a Romeo and Juliet story of the dangerous, bitter rivalry betweenVisit Jaleigh Johnson's website.two families of performers: the Palomas and their sworn enemies, the Corbeaus. But underneath it’s so much more. This is the kind of book where I’ll read a passage, catch my breath and go back and reread it just so I can soak up the beauty of the language. Star-crossed lovers Lace and Cluck are compelling characters with divided loyalties. I was caught up in their romance, and my heart broke as they struggled to remain true to their families and to each other. I want to give this book to everyone I know and tell them they’ll thank me later. What a great reading experience.
